produced by Karst Productions, Wes Skiles and Jill Heinerth
This series documents the water resources in Florida. The two DVDs to order which pertain to our north Florida region are:
The Hidden Rivers of Florida $29.95
The River Returns $29.95
Directors Wes Skiles and Jill Heinerth are world renowned cave divers, film producers and educators. Jill Heinerth is also available through our Speaker's Bureau. As the "fresh water springs capital of the world" North Florida has also become the fresh water cave diving capital of the world. The world's foremost cave divers come hang out here, including Wes and Jill. Living and diving in Florida they have become prominent educators about our springs and the Floridan Aquifer. They are mapping the aquifer and helping to show how the aquifer and porous limerock karst topography are interconnected underground. This will help us understand how and where we can develop without polluting the ground water. Wes also helped develop a public school curriculum called Waters Journey which is available for public school teachers. Many more educational resources can be found at www.WatersJourney.com. Our Florida's Eden ARTT Education partner, Fort White High School in Columbia County, uses Waters Journey in middle school science classrooms.
2. Gimme Green
Directed and produced by Eric Flagg and Isaac Brown
Eric Flagg is a local film maker and environmental scientist who has won international acclaim with this film. Gimme Green is a humorous look at America's preoccupation with our lawns. Its a palatable way to engage folks to learn about water conservation or the lack of it and how we can have landscapes which are healthier for our region. This film has been especially interesting to an international audience as a glimpse into the lifestyles of Americans. There is some educational information on the Gimme Green website too.
